Independence Day

Our fourth of July was everything I hoped for.
We spent the morning relaxing on the lake, soaking in the sun, and tubing. We caught up with friends over cold cut sandwiches and potato chips at lunch and chat on the dock all afternoon.
Once the sun started to set, the grill was fired up and my man got down to business. He seriously knows how to cook his meat. If only we could have a grill in a NYC one bedroom apartment...
While dinner was being prepared, we talked with more of Brian's old friends from his days in Portland over appetizers and drinks on the deck. For the first time, Emily warmed up to a dog and loved playing fetch with Dakota.
Once it was dark, we all rode out on the pontoon boat to the middle of the lake for Brian's fireworks show. We cheered and applauded with each display, as did the neighbors around the lake.
I feel so lucky to be surrounded by loved ones on this holiday, and so proud to be an American. Thank you to all of the men and women in the armed forces who continue to fight for our freedom today, and a very happy Independence Day to you all!
