Lions, and tigers, and bears! Oh my!

Oh, how we love our New York City zoos. Brian and I have been taking Emily to the zoo since she was teeny tiny, and it is always fun for us to return together. We just renewed our annual membership to the Wildlife Conservation Society, which gives us unlimited access to all of the New York City zoos and aquariums for the next year (if you live in NYC, we highly recommend becoming a member of the Conservation Society! So many great perks...). We arrived early on Saturday morning at the Bronx Zoo for our day with the animals. It seemed every creature was ready and waiting for us when we arrived at their homes- the tigers were wrestling in the water, the gorillas were roaming with leaves in hand, and the lemurs shot up their tails as they screeched and screamed in unison (which terrified Emily!). It was a very exciting day.
After lunch at the Dancing Crane Cafe, we enjoyed dippin' dots before jumping on the shuttle. We made our way across the zoo to visit the Himalayan Highlands before heading home.
The Bronx Zoo will always amaze me. It is an incredible feeling to be on a street in the Bronx one minute, surrounded by traffic, people, and tall buildings, and looking into the eyes of a gorilla in the Gorilla Congo the next. Only in New York City...
We love our days at the zoo.

  3. I used to live right near the Bronx Zoo and it always made me laugh because you could tell that most of the people going into the zoo would never go to the Bronx if not for that zoo...or yankee stadium. But I loved living there. The botanical garden up there is also a must see!
