Jeff Koons: A Retrospective is an amazing exhibit currently at the Whitney Museum (June 27- October 19). The exhibition is displayed throughout four full floors of the Whitney Museum and will be the final presentation there before the Museum opens its new building downtown in 2015. This is the first time so much space has been dedicated to a single artist at the Whitney. To celebrate the exhibition's close, the Museum will be open around the clock from October 18- October 19th for "36 hours of Koons." If you have not been yet, I highly recommend checking it!

City as Canvas.
Last week I visited the Museum of the City of New York for the first time and loved City as Canvas, the largest collection of graffiti art currently on display in New York City. The exhibition includes over 150 pieces on canvas and other media from Martin Wong's personal collection, which he donated to the museum before he passed away in 1999. City as Canvas also includes photographs from around New York City when graffiti covered subways and buildings. While at the exhibit I got to see works from Keith Haring, Lady Pink, Basquiat, and Christopher "Daze" Ellis, among others. If you are a fan of graffiti art I highly recommend visiting the museum before the exhibit closes on August 24, 2014.
In addition to the exhibit, I also really loved the museum itself. The Museum of the City of New York is located a few blocks away from the 103rd Street station on the 6 train on Museum Mile. It is smaller than most NYC museums (3 floors with one or two exhibits per floor), which I truly appreciate. Sometimes the larger museums completely overwhelm me! If you make it there, don't miss Timescapes, a 22-minute mulit-media experience documenting the history of New York City.1.18.2012
Day at the Museum
Although the weekend with my parents was mostly filled with trips to restaurants and bakeries around the city, we managed to fit in a few sights over the course of the three days. After battling the cold on Saturday and Sunday, we decided to spend Monday morning at the American Museum of Natural History. We wandered the Hall of Minerals and Hall of Gems, admiring the cases of garnets, sapphires, and rare diamonds (this is my favorite section of the museum!). Afterwards, we spent time in the Halls of Biodiversity and Ocean Life. We had a wonderful time exploring the museum together!

Museum of the Moving Image
Since I moved to Astoria, the Museum of Moving Image has been under construction. I walked by it every time I went to the gym and was eager for it to reopen. On January 15th, the museum doors opened to the public, and today we made our first visit there.
We had fun walking around the three floors looking at costumes, cameras, televisions, and set designs. We also got to watch The Green Hornet from 1939. It was a nice way to spend a Sunday afternoon!
