To market, to market.

Brian and I have always loved the Greenmarket in Union Square. We have fun wandering through the many stands and stocking up on produce, jams, and organic, grass fed meat. This week, we set out to explore a new Greenmarket (well, new to us) that sets up every Wednesday in Astoria. Although it is significantly smaller than its sister market in Manhattan, the two stands had all we needed. We loaded our shopping bags with fresh tomatoes, peaches, blueberries, basil, carrots, sugar snaps, yellow zucchini, squash, and bok choy.
The second I purchased tomatoes and basil, I knew I needed to eat a caprese salad as soon as possible.  I stopped at my local Italian deli to pick up homemade mozzarella before walking the rest of the way home.
I had been craving this exact salad for several days and was so excited to finally eat it! It was the perfect summer lunch.
I am excited to have a New York State of Mind (the blog) facebook page. If you are reading, please head on over and click "like" to let me know!

  3. the union square greenmarket is like heaven on earth! but it looks like your little market is pretty good too! those veggies are gorgeous and that salad looks devine! we just got the first red tomatoes off our bush in the backyard last night and had them for breakfast today on wheat toast and i almost passed out they were so delicious. it is AMAZING how different homegrown produce from your yard or the greenmarket is comepared to grocery store stuff! now i have a giant ball of mozz in my fridge waiting for another tomato to ripen so i can eat it with the eighty thousand pounds of basil i've got out back :)

have a great weekend and happy eating! :)

  4. I've been dying to go to the farmer's market for forever! But since Dave usually has a show Friday night and we don't get home until late, getting up early enough just hasn't happened yet...your salad looks amazing!
