After feeding the goats, admiring the chickens, and trying our first bag of fresh apple donuts, we headed into the orchards to pick some apples. Brian directed us to the lines of Golden Delicious apples first, where we picked several perfectly ripened green apples and sampled a few, too. Emily wiggled her three loose teeth and cautiously bit into the apples as we walked from tree to tree.
We continued up and down the orchard hills adding Rome and Jonagold apples to our bag. Brian sneakily climbed tree limbs to get the best apples as Emily and I picked from the lower branches. A few hours later, our bag was overflowing with a delicious selection of apples and we were ready to head back.
Before we departed for the city, we sipped the orchard's amazing hot apple cider next to rows of hand-painted pumpkins and bales of hay. I also consumed several more apple cider donuts covered in cinnamon and sugar- yum! Hands down Wilklow Orchards has the best donuts around!Earlier in the day, we admired an adorable little pug getting her pictures taken around the orchard. After talking to her dads, we learned that her name is Mama Biscuit and that she has her very own blog! I paged through her posts as we drank our cider later in the afternoon, read her story, and knew that I needed to get a picture with her! John and Tommy were absolutely fabulous and a pleasure to meet. I am looking forward to following all of Mama B.'s adventures in New York City and appreciating her amazing sense of style. Make sure to check out Desperately Seeking Mama Biscuit!
We couldn't have had a better day at the apple orchard. This will always be one of my favorite fall traditions.
