Scenes from the weekend.

Weekends with my family in New York City are my favorite kind of weekends. Not a moment was wasted during my parents' visit this past weekend as we make our way around the boroughs exploring, shopping, and treating ourselves to the most delicious food. Here are some highlights from my parents' 48-hour stay in the city:
  • Saturday morning we wanted to have pastries and coffee from Dominique Ansel Bakery before walking around SoHo. We arrived at the bakery around 10:45 am and got in line. We were shocked to discover after our five minute wait that they still had a few cronuts left! We treated ourselves to two salted dulce de leche cronuts, my favorite DKA pastry, and an apple croissant. It was the most amazing surprise to kick off our weekend!
  • The weather in NYC was ridiculously beautiful on Saturday. Low sixties and blue skies in mid-November? I'll take it!
  • We met Ricky Syers, a puppeteer in Washington Square Park, who we recognized from Humans of New York. We chat about his friend Doris and the new puppet he was crafting in honor of the pigeon man who often sits on the west side of the park. He was such a fun and interesting person! My mom and I also got our own signed copies of HONY at Strand; I am so in love with this book!
  • The tacos from Los Tacos No. 1 in Chelsea Market were beyond delicious. Must go back for more soon!
  • Saturday night we saw my friend Nick's show, Feet Don't Fail Me Now, on 42nd street. I danced with Nick growing up in Minnesota  and am so proud of the amazing production he put together! It is running through December 1st at the New Victory Theater. If you are in NYC I highly recommend seeing it!
  • John's Pizza on a Saturday night= Classic NYC.
  • Sunday morning we battled the drizzly weather for Wafels and Dinges and a stroll through Central Park. After an hour of walking around, we were ready for Stumptown coffee and croissants from the Plaza Food Hall.
  • We had some exciting celebrity sightings this weekend- Claire Danes, Katie Holmes, and Suri Cruise!
  • We concluded our week at Bare Burger with fries, burgers, and shakes. Yum!

Thanks Mom and Chuck for such a wonderful weekend!

  2. What an awesome and busy weekend! You guys surely didn't waste anytime. And all that food! I'm so jealous! Especially of that lucky cronut mission :) Having parents in town is really the best, packed with activity but still comfortable and fun. I hope they had a blast on their visit!
