City as Canvas.

Last week I visited the Museum of the City of New York for the first time and loved City as Canvas, the largest collection of graffiti art currently on display in New York City. The exhibition includes over 150 pieces on canvas and other media from Martin Wong's personal collection, which he donated to the museum before he passed away in 1999. City as Canvas also includes photographs from around New York City when graffiti covered subways and buildings. While at the exhibit I got to see works from Keith Haring, Lady Pink, Basquiat, and Christopher "Daze" Ellis, among others. If you are a fan of graffiti art I highly recommend visiting the museum before the exhibit closes on August 24, 2014.
In addition to the exhibit, I also really loved the museum itself. The Museum of the City of New York is located a few blocks away from the 103rd Street station on the 6 train on Museum Mile. It is smaller than most NYC museums (3 floors with one or two exhibits per floor), which I truly appreciate. Sometimes the larger museums completely overwhelm me! If you make it there, don't miss Timescapes, a 22-minute mulit-media experience documenting the history of New York City.

    1. Cristina, you should definitely check it out! I loved this exhibit. You have plenty of time to see it before it closes in August! Also, teachers get in for free. Yay!
