Scenes from the weekend.

We had a blast celebrating Emily's golden birthday over the weekend. We cannot believe she is already nine years old! We kicked off the birthday festivities at American Girl on Fifth Avenue. That store is exhausting and overpriced, but seeing how excited she was about getting a new cat for her doll, Julie, was worth it. Temperatures reached the high fifties Saturday afternoon, so I enjoyed my first iced coffee of the season and lunch outside in a plaza in midtown. That night Emily and I got our nails done in Astoria before her special birthday dinner of "kids' foods." Yes, that was her one request! We planned a fun menu of groovy grilled cheese triangles, fancy French fries, pizza pizzazz, and cheery chicken fingers. We concluded the evening with cake, ice cream, and Labyrinth. I was obsessed with that movie as a child and was so excited to have Emily watch it for the first time!

Sunday morning Emily woke up to nine little presents hidden throughout the house. She had so much fun searching for and opening her gifts. That afternoon my parents arrived in NYC for a visit. We ate tacos in Chelsea Market, shopped around Union Square, and had a delicious dinner at Gradisca on 13th Street.

How was your weekend?

  3. Okay. First, I'd just like to say you are AWESOME for having her watch Labyrinth. One of my all-time faves, of course. Second, is that your mother in the last pic? Because she could be your TWIN!

    1. Oh my goodness, I am so sorry I am not responding to your comment until just now! Somehow the past couple weeks slipped away from me. Labyrinth was my favorite movie when I was younger, and I was so excited for Emily to watch it! She has requested it every weekend since. I might have even worn my David Bowie Labyrinth t-shirt while we watched... Yes, that is my mom in the last photo. Lately I feel like we are looking more and more alike! I would be grateful to look like her and rock her style when I am in my fifties!

Hope you had a great weekend!

    1. Hey Samantha! I use my Canon Rebel for almost all of the photo content on my blog. I am hoping to invest in a better dSLR soon, but in the meantime my Rebel is getting me through.
