Life according to Instagram, Week 10.

Another week brought to you by Instagram...
1. Our day started last Sunday at Peter Pan. I thoroughly enjoyed my iced coffee, sour cream old-fashioned donut, and red velvet cruller.
2. Greenpoint, Brooklyn.
3. Excited for our day in Brooklyn!
4. Brooklyn Bridge Park. The views from Jane's Carousel were amazing.
5. One of my favorites- Brooklyn Ice Cream Factory.
6. Emily enjoyed chocolate ice cream with hot fudge, while we devoured a scoop of vanilla chocolate chunk.
7. One of my favorite views. Ever.
8. Manhattan Bridge.
9-12. This week's weather was absolutely amazing. With temperatures in the sixties and seventies, my favorite summer shoes came out of storage and made my feet very happy.
13. If this doesn't scream spring, I don't know what does.
14. Our ducklings hatched in the science lab this week and are so incredibly cute. I can't help stopping in at least once a day to say hi and hold them!
15-18. This week, we launched our third and final study of the year in second grade: The Brooklyn Bridge Study. At the beginning of the study, the kids learn about what Brooklyn was like in the 1800's. We look at several paintings of places in Brooklyn long ago, and then visit those same places to compare and contrast what they look like today.  We started by looking at an image of the East River. After making observations about the painting in the classroom, we headed to the Brooklyn Promenade to see what that area looks like today. There is nothing I love more than taking my kids out into the city to learn about our community and how it has changed over time. The weather was perfect, the setting was perfect, and the kids did an amazing job sketching all that they saw.
19. On our walk to and from Brooklyn Heights there were so many trees in bloom. This spring is making me so happy.
20. The Heights.
21. & 22. Magnolias are one of my favorite things about spring. The blossoms are amazing.
23-26. On Friday, we headed back out into Brooklyn for another field trip. We spent the day at the Brooklyn Museum. We planned to eat lunch outside before heading in for our guided tour. When we stepped out of the Eastern Parkway subway station, the cherry blossoms surrounding the front of the museum literally took my breath away. We happily sat on the benches underneath the trees and enjoyed our lunches. It was beautiful.
27. We closely examined a painting of Front and Dock Streets (in Brooklyn) from the early 1800's. We will be going to Front and Dock Street next week to see what the area looks like today.
28. Before we left the museum, the kids looks at Brooklyn Bridge by Georgia O'Keefe. They examined the lines in the piece, and then made those shapes with their bodies.
29. A painting at the Brooklyn Museum.
30. Happy after a wonderful week!
