An evening to remember.

On August 28th we were lucky enough to get seats at the first show held in Forest Hills Stadium in more than 20 years. The stadium was constructed in 1923 and hosted legends like The Beatles, Jimi Hendrix, The Who, and Bob Dylan before it fell out of use and into a state of disrepair in the late eighties. Mumford & Sons' show marked the first of eighteen planned concerts over the next three years in the stadium; hopefully they will be able to bring the venue back to life as a full-time concert location soon! It was amazing to be present for the historic concert in such a legendary space.
We arrived early for Bear's Den, a band I recently discovered and cannot get enough of. They sounded so amazing that I immediately purchased tickets to their show on October 5th after getting home from the Forest Hills performance! If you are in New York City and want to check them out, they will be playing with Daughter at Terminal 5 this fall.
The Vaccines were awesome as well and really brought the energy up before the main act took the stage.
Mumford & Sons were absolutely phenomenal, as expected. It was love at first listen for me when I heard Sigh No More back in 2009 and seeing them in concert is always such a thrill. They are one of the few bands that can manage to make me smile, dance, and cry with almost every song.
There were several issues related to the venue that made the night less than ideal for some (bathroom and vendor lines were over an hour long and some never made it into the arena!), but I will only remember the amazing music I heard, singing at the top of my lungs, and dancing my heart out.

It was definitely an evening to remember.

  1. I love, love, LOVE Mumford & Sons! I desperately wanted to go to this show, but it was happening on my mom's birthday and so I decided against it. Gosh, they are such an amazing live band. Checking out these pictures gave me chills!
