Venice Beach

The majority of our six days in Florida, Brian and I stayed at the house. And for the first time in my life, I was not only okay, but so incredibly happy, that we decided to keep our vacation plan-free. No Disney, no Islands of Adventure, no Sanibel. Just pool, grill, Sopranos episodes, and way too many desserts from the Publix bakery. But, by Saturday, we decided one little trip to the beach would be okay. We packed our beach bag with towels, water, and sun screen, stopped and got our Venti Starbucks iced coffee, and hit the road for our 15 minute drive to Venice beach.
And the sound of the waves, the sand between my toes, and that beautiful blue water made me very happy.
We strolled along the quiet coastline and every few minutes, Brian stopped to scoop up some of the ocean floor with our super-professional net in hopes of finding sharks' teeth. Collecting shark teeth is a favorite Venice activity, and we've enjoyed digging through piles of shells and sand each year we make the trip together to find them.
Here is our best find of the day. Score.
After about an hour in the sun, we shook out our towels and drove to the main street in downtown Venice. We poked our heads in little souvenir shops and stopped at Kilwin's for some ice cream before retreating to the house for the rest of the weekend. Let me just say, the cake batter ice cream was delicious. See those little chunks of real cake? So good.
We were quite happy on vacation.
And so sad to have to leave. Until next time, Florida...
And a very special thank you to Brian's parents for letting us come stay in their amazing home! Such a wonderful getaway for us. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
