Mourning.

I was greatly saddened to read that the battle to save 5 Pointz was lost early this morning. The art space was covered in white paint throughout the night and only remnants of the graffiti are now visible. A peaceful candlelight vigil will be held for 5 Pointz tonight at 5 pm for people to say goodbye to this amazing Queens landmark. 

I will forever cherish my visits to 5 Pointz and the pictures I have from them. These photos were taken during my final visit to the space in late October. The colors, energy, and pieces were phenomenal that day and I am so glad Brian and I took the time to walk around and admire them all. 

New York City will be mourning the loss of 5 Pointz for a very long time.

Rental cars take our weekends to a whole new level. It's amazing how much you can pack into two days buzzing around the city in a car (if you have good luck finding parking, that is). After picking Emily up Saturday morning we had a delicious lunch at the LIC Flea. We were planning to spend the day playing at the parks along the water, but the insane wind gusts convinced us to change our plans. We treated ourselves to donuts from Peter Pan instead and then drove into Manhattan to check out the Halloween decor on the upper east side town homes.

Sunday morning we relaxed at home before bringing Emily back to her mom's house. Once we were back in Queens we made a stop at 5 Pointz and treated ourselves to a date night out at Enthaice Thai kitchen, a new restaurant in our neighborhood. Our meal was perfection! Our weekend concluded with a Red Sox win- bearded boys all the way! How was your weekend? 

5 Pointz

Ever since I moved to Queens back in 2008, 5 Pointz has been one of my favorite destinations in my borough. Brian and I love to drive over to the graffiti mecca whenever we have a rental car and check out the new pieces. It is so fun to look back on my photographs from the past five years and reminisce about all of the amazing artwork that has covered this old warehouse's walls.

Currently there are plans to replace 5 Pointz with new residential towers and retail space. To sign a petition to save 5 Pointz, click here. I will be sad to see this amazing space disappear!

Here are some little things that have brought joy to my week... 

5 Pointz

Brian and I have taken many trips to 5 Pointz, an abandoned warehouse in Long Island City that has been transformed into an outdoor art exhibit space. Every time we go, we spend time walking around admiring the new pieces that have been added since our last visit. Last weekend, we took Brian's nephew, DJ, and Emily along to check it out. 

I am so impressed every time I visit 5 Pointz. How this is all created with spray paint is something I will never understand.

Donut Dates
After months away, we returned to Peter Pan on Sunday morning for coffee, donuts, and egg sandwiches. It was just as delicious as I remembered. (Read more about Peter Pan here and here.)

Fresh Flowers
I love that flower stands can be found on most NYC street corners with cheap bouquets. These light purple flowers have been brightening my desk this week.

Snail Mail
I received these with my Thanksgiving card from my sister. Letters and pictures from my nieces Sage and Reese always bring a smile to my face. And Reese is right, I think they need to come to New York soon! I can't wait to spend time with them in Minnesota over the holidays. It will be the first time they get to play in the snow (they live in Florida)!
